Woven cultures – G20 Australia 2014

Smart, innovative and fresh, the Corporate Identity for G20 Australia 2014 is distinctly Australian and acknowledges its colorful landscapes and Indigenous heritage. The logo represents a weaving together of nations, a gathering of leaders and the journeys they will embark upon throughout 2013-14. Though contemporary use of bespoke Indigenous artwork, and its traditional visual story-telling elements, the identity distinguishes Australia as the host country for the G20 in 2014, and promises a new direction through an emphasis on collaboration and interaction between nations.

Sense

The creation was heavily influenced by Zen Buddhism. The Chinese word ‘san’ is an utmost important number in traditional Eastern mindset: It is related to everything in the universe. The corresponding English name ‘SENSE’ refers to intuition, a stage higher than knowledge, imagination and inspiration, and closely reflects the phonetic pronunciation of its Chinese counterpart – ‘san xiang san’. The logo represents Eastern thinking: Although one does not completely see the three hills, partially covered by 'clouds', there are nonetheless present.

Huatu

The striking simplicity of the logo mark makes it easy to remember. The two letters ‘Hua’ and ‘Tu’ overlap, highlighting their common denominator, the letter ‘u’. Amplifying this letter ‘u’ interestingly resembles a book (the essence of the business). To further stress the attributes of the industry, the designer applied the shape of a Chinese thread-bound book in the visual application, reflecting a strong sense of Chinese culture and form. Overall, this training brand adopted a visual system which both brings new energy and expression, but also provides a sense of authority.

Glow

Nescafe Decaf's "Why Not?" campaign paved the way for the first glow-in-the-dark print material ever to be produced. A cup of great tasting coffee during the evenings can be very enjoyable as with the experience of our readers once they land on our print ad. In a lit room, the material shows a Nescafe Decaf pack with the headline: “Sarap ng Kape” ("Great Tasting Coffee") When lights are turned off, the moon and stars glow along the new copy that reads: “Sarap ng Kape…Lalo Na Sa Gabi!” ("Great Tasting Coffee...especially at night!")

Pain and Suffering

This design explores suffering in different layers: philosophical, social, medical and scientific. From my personal point of view that suffering and pain comes in many faces and forms, philosophical and scientific, I chose the humanization of suffering and pain as my basis. I studied the analogies between symbiotic in nature and symbiotic in human relations and from this research I created characters that visually represent the symbiotic relations between suffer and the sufferer and between pain and the one in pain. This design is an experiment and the viewer is the subject.

Amaranto Restaurant

Institutional campaign for Amaranto restaurant in Brazil, Argentina and Chile. The client asked for a campaign whose references radically differed from the images generally used in restaurant ads, such as pictures of dishes served and the like. The design was inspired by the restaurant’s cooking concept of mixing different types of food which actually result in new flavors. The campaign, “Reinventing flavors!” was inspired by surrealism. Regular day-to day images transformed into surrealism - each person’s take on the image leads to the understanding of the sense of humor behind them.
